Tsugami's technical fair was impressive for those that attended it. New machine releases included the SS32L, the VA32H-5AX vertical machining center, and the MJ8 chucker machine. To be marketed as a chucker version of the popular SS platform, the SS32L features 1.25" bar capacity, a modular tool zone, and live face and cross tools for both main and sub spindle.
Chucker configurations can benefit manufacturers in a variety of ways. Ground bar stock is not required to produce quality parts. The machine does not have a guide bushing, so one doesn't have to worry about non-ground bar beating it up. Shorter bar remnants is another benefit. If you're working with expensive material, this could be especially appealing to you, as it would allow you to produce more parts per bar.
Designed for the North America marketplace, the SS series platform is ideal for job shops and production houses alike. A wide variety of parts, from simple to the most complex, can be produced complete from bar stock. Utilizing plug and play driven spindle units for most face and cross rotary tools, the SS32L gives manufacturers the ability to respond to changing business demands rapidly. Driven spindle units can be moved easily from cross to face and from main to sub. In fact, ID tool blocks can even be exchanged in favor of additional gang tools.
